Moving Made Easier

“Moving is a blast!” said no one, ever. Actually it can be exciting it is the logistics and packing that can be the pain. While it can be very stressful there are ways to help minimize the anxiety that can be associate with it. The more time you have to prepare the better, but even if you don’t these 5 tips and tricks can help make the process run a little bit smoother.

1. Save $$$ on Packing Supplies

Boxes, tape, labels and bubble wrap can add up to big dollars very quickly. If you have time, shopping online for these items is a good way to save money because most companies will bundle them together. Keep all your receipts because some companies, like U-Haul will even refund any unused boxes.

2. To Take or Not To Take?

You never realize how much stuff you really have until you have to pack it all. Now is a great time to purge the house of junk that has been collecting dust for some time. Go through each room and make piles, keep, sell, recycle, trash and donate. You can also have a yard sale beforehand to help with the cost of moving. Keep in mind, this also mean less for you to unpack!

3. Packing Essentials

In a perfect world, you packed everything neatly and labeled every box. In reality however, once you get to your destination, the last thing you want to be doing is digging through every box to find the important stuff. Try to pack any immediate essentials in a plastic bin so not only can you see what is in there, it will stand out from the rest. This will save you a lot of time and stress.

4. Trash Your Clothes

Okay not literally. The easiest way to pack clothes is to put them into trash bags. This goes for both hanging clothes and those in your dresser. Depending on the thickness, you may be able to put between 11-20 hanged items in a trash bag. Use ties to wrap around the hanger part. The best part all the trash bags can be reused throughout the unpacking process.

5. Sandwich Bags are Your Friend

Keep a lot of sandwich bags on hand when packing. You will always come across odds and ends (screws and pins) that you will probably need on the other end. It is also great for kid’s rooms, as Legos, small figurines and random toys can be packed without change of falling out of the box or being a huge mess for you while unpacking.
